Bermuda Golf Guide

Bermuda packs more golf per square mile than anywhere else on earth, seven courses on a twenty one square mile island, and two of them are genuinely world class. Port Royal Golf Course, a Robert Trent Jones Sr. design from 1970 that is somehow a government-run public course, hosts the PGA Tour's Butterfield Bermuda Championship every fall and previously staged the PGA Grand Slam of Golf. Its par 3 sixteenth, played from a clifftop tee across a chunk of the Atlantic, is the most photographed hole on the island and one of the great par 3s anywhere. On the east end, the Mid Ocean Club is C.B. Macdonald's only design outside the United States, built in the early 1920s with Seth Raynor and stocked with his famous template holes. The Cape hole fifth, daring you to bite off as much of Mangrove Lake as your ego allows, might be the best version he ever built. It is private, but visitors can get on select days or through certain hotels. Turtle Hill at the Fairmont Southampton, voted the best par 3 course in the world, and the Rosewood resort course at Tucker's Point round out a rotation that never requires more than a thirty minute drive.

Off the course, Bermuda is pink sand beaches, three hundred shipwrecks for divers, the UNESCO-listed town of St. George's, and a Dark 'n Stormy poured with the local Gosling's rum that invented the drink. It is a two hour flight from most of the East Coast, shorts are considered business attire, and the golf season never really ends.
